دو زن قالیباف ایرانی در آستانه سفر ریچارد نیکسون به ایران یک قالی با تصویر رئیس جمهور وقت امریکا به عنوان هدیه تشریفاتی برای وی می‌بافند؛ در نهم خرداد 1351 ریچارد نیکسون سی و هفتمین رییس جمهوری آمریکا و همسرش برای یک دیدار رسمی وارد تهران شدند. گفته می شود محمدرضا شاه پس از خروج انگلیس از خلیج فارس و از سوی دیگر پیمان دوستی عراق و شوروی به دنبال یک خرید تسلیحاتی از دولت امریکا بود و سعی داشت در این سفر نیکسون را متقاعد کند.
